Specialized equipment for high-efficiency surface cleaning of medium and large workpieces · Q37 Series
The hook-type shot blasting machine (Q37 series) is a specialized piece of equipment designed for surface cleaning of medium to large-sized castings, forgings, welded structural parts, and heat-treated parts. Workpieces are suspended into the enclosed shot blasting chamber by an electric hoist hook. The hook can rotate 360°, and multiple shot blasters propel high-speed shot from the sides and top, ensuring thorough cleaning of all workpiece surfaces, including internal cavities, grooves, and complex dead angles.
The equipment offers several configurations: single-hook, double-hook, and overhead conveyor (Q38/Q48/Q58 series). The single-hook type is suitable for small batches or extra-large workpieces; the double-hook type features two hooks that work alternately, with one hook cleaning while the other loads and unloads, shortening auxiliary time and suitable for continuous batch production; the overhead conveyor type (continuous/stepping/accumulating) is suitable for large-volume assembly line operations. After treatment, the workpiece surface cleanliness can reach Sa2.5 grade (ISO 8501-1), with a surface roughness Rz of 25–60 μm.
Double-Hook Type Workflow: The equipment is configured with two independent workstations: a cleaning chamber and a loading/unloading area. Two hooks operate alternately via a track system. After hook A enters the cleaning chamber, the chamber door closes, the hook rotates, and multiple shot blasters propel shot at high speed. Simultaneously, hook B loads and unloads workpieces in the outdoor loading/unloading area. Hook A automatically moves out after cleaning, and hook B automatically enters the cleaning chamber, alternating in a cycle. Shot is recycled after bottom spiral recovery, bucket elevator, and air separation; dust and shot fragments are filtered by a pulse filter cartridge/bag filter system before being discharged in compliance with standards.
Process Flow (Double-Hook Type):
Hook A enters chamber → Shot blasting cleaning + Hook B loading/unloading → Hook A exits chamber for purging → Hook B enters chamber → Alternating cycle
Single-Hook Type Workflow: The single-hook type uses one hook. After the workpiece is suspended, it enters the cleaning chamber. After cleaning, the hook moves out for unloading. Suitable for small batches, multiple varieties or extra-large workpieces (single hook load capacity can reach more than 10 tons).
The shot blasting machine adopts a high-efficiency direct-drive structure, with a direct-drive motor and no belt drive. The impeller is 100% dynamically balanced (dynamic balance grade G6.3) to ensure vibration ≤4.5 mm/s at high speeds. The blades, shot distribution wheel, directional sleeve, and guard plates are all made of high-chromium wear-resistant cast iron, with a chemical composition conforming to ASTM A532 standard, a hardness ≥58 HRC, and a standard blade life of 2500–3000 hours.
Shot blasting machine: High-efficiency direct-drive type, with layout angle optimized by 3D simulation to ensure full surface coverage of the suspended workpiece;
Hook system: Electric hoist + self-rotating mechanism, load-bearing wheels are heat-treated, and bearings are heavy-duty type; double-hook configuration with alternating track system, PLC-controlled automatic switching;
Chamber lining: High-chromium cast iron/65Mn rolled lining, modular quick-connect design, thickness 10–20 mm, quick replacement;
Sealing system: Automatic lifting door + multi-layer rubber curtain seal to prevent shot leakage;
Shot material circulation system: Bottom spiral recovery + bucket elevator + air separation, separation efficiency ≥99%;
Dust removal system: Standard pulse cartridge dust collector (bag filter optional), dust emissions can be controlled to <5 mg/m³;
Electrical system: PLC control (Siemens/Mitsubishi optional), touch screen operation, supports automatic/manual modes, remote monitoring module optional.
Installation Site Requirements:
Q376 model: Approximately 5 m × 4 m footprint (including main unit and loading/unloading area); factory height ≥ 5.5 m;
Q3720 model: Approximately 7 m × 5 m footprint; factory height ≥ 7 m;
Q37100 model: Approximately 10 m × 7 m footprint; factory height ≥ 8 m;
Space must be reserved for workpiece placement and turnover; ≥ 2 m on each side is recommended;
Concrete foundation flatness ≤ 3 mm/m; anchor bolts must be pre-embedded in the main unit area;
Power supply: 380V/3Ph/50Hz (or customized according to customer's power grid); a 20% margin in total equipment power is required.
Maintenance Points
Daily: Check the operating sound, vibration, and current of the shot blasting machine; check the hook rotation mechanism and track operation; check the automatic door sealing.
Weekly: Check the wear of vulnerable parts (blades, guard plates) and replenish grease; check the tension of the hoist belt/chain.
Every 3–6 months: Conduct a comprehensive inspection of the chamber guard plates and hook sleeve wear; check the position of the shot blasting machine directional sleeve window; check the pressure difference of the dust collector filter cartridge/bag.
Blade Replacement Standard: Replace blades when wear >5 mm or cracks appear to ensure that the blasting speed does not decrease.
Hook Inspection: Inspect the hook for deformation, cracks, and welds; perform non-destructive testing (MT/PT) annually to ensure safe load-bearing capacity.

The size of the cleaning chamber, the number and power of the shot blasters, and the hook load can all be customized according to the user's workpiece specifications and production requirements;2. The total installed power, excluding dust removal, is the sum of the power of the shot blasters, hook rotation, lifting, and separation systems; when dust removal is included, it is calculated based on the power of the matching cartridge/bag dust collector fan;3. The cleaning time is a reference value, and the actual time depends on the original surface condition of the workpiece, the cleaning grade requirements, and the type of abrasive;4. The hook rotation speed decreases as the workpiece size increases to ensure stable rotation of large workpieces without wobbling;5. The double-hook type comes standard with an automatic door opening and closing system and a track alternation system; the single-hook type has a simpler structure and is suitable for small batches.
Suitable for surface cleaning and strengthening of medium to large-sized cast steel, cast iron, forgings, welded parts, and heat-treated parts. Widely used in casting, engineering machinery, construction, chemical, motor, machine tool, aerospace, automotive manufacturing, and steel industries.
Typical workpieces: engine blocks, crankshafts, gears, reducer housings, valve and pump bodies, steel structural components, welded frames, pressure vessel heads, etc.
Particularly suitable for:
Slender, thin-walled parts that should not be subjected to impact (no rolling or bumping during suspension);
Irregularly shaped workpieces with complex internal cavities (all surfaces exposed during rotation);
Workpieces with large single-piece weight that cannot be handled by tracked or mesh belt conveyors.
Not suitable for:
Ultra-small parts (<5 kg, low efficiency, tracked Q32 recommended); long strip pipes (roller conveyor QZW recommended); large batches of small parts (overhead catenary Q38/Q48 recommended).
The double-hook configuration has two hooks that alternately enter the cleaning chamber. While one hook is cleaning, the other hook is loading and unloading, allowing for continuous operation without stopping the machine and reducing auxiliary time by more than 50%, making it suitable for batch continuous production. The single-hook configuration has only one hook, with a simple structure, suitable for small batches, multiple varieties, or extra-large workpieces (single hook load capacity can reach more than 10 tons).
It can handle medium to large-sized cast steel parts, cast iron parts, forgings, welded parts, and heat-treated parts, including engine blocks, crankshafts, gears, reducer housings, valve and pump bodies, and steel structural components. It is particularly suitable for slender, thin-walled parts and irregularly shaped workpieces that should not be subjected to impact. The single hook load capacity ranges from 0.6 to 10 tons, and can be customized up to 20 tons and above.
Processing time depends on workpiece size, degree of corrosion, and cleaning requirements. Generally, it takes 5–8 minutes per hook for castings, 3–10 minutes per hook for welded and structural parts, and 10–20 minutes per hook for large and complex workpieces. Specific times can be adjusted via PLC settings.
Under standard operating conditions, surface cleanliness can reach Sa2.5 (ISO 8501-1), with a roughness Rz of 25–60 μm. Higher grades (Sa3) can be achieved by increasing the number of shot blasters, extending the cleaning time, or using finer abrasives.
High-wear parts include shot-blast-wheel blades, the impeller and distribution wheel, directional sleeves, chamber liners, separator screens, and hook bearings or seals. Blade life commonly ranges from 800-1,500 operating hours depending on abrasive type and hardness; liner life is normally longer but must be inspected regularly.
